[Hearing | Grease Soundtrack - There are worse things I could do]
Just kidding. I'm not dead sillies. How could I write this entry if I was? Exactly. I'm going to jump right into this so brace yourselves.
I'm working at the 'Nover library archives this summer. I have completed two days and this is what I have learned.
1) Computers are here to destroy your confidence. As soon as I think I have the system at work figured out BAM! something screws up. And it isn't just computers. Their illegitimate cousins the scanner and copier are in on it too. Its a conspiracy I say!
2) No matter how much you want to make sure the scanner is working, don't look directly at it. That damn light will start working as soon as you glance at it. Every time. Its a good thing I don't need my eyes to see or anything silly like that.
3) No one comes to the Duggan library in the summer except the one kid who stays there all day.
4) The circ desk workers and people who work in the backroom are the only ones with set schedules. Everyone else just floats in when they feel like it. This is very frustrating when you work with them, but you have to be there at 7:30 in the morning.
Other than that Duggan library rocks my socks. I'm working with Doug which is always a good time. I get to learn all sorts of archive geekery. I am working with Kim in the photo archives and she is teaching me so much. Good fun. I get to handle old books and old pictures, getting my hands literally dirty with it all. I love the people I work with they are so laid back and fun. Plus the one lady who works at the circ desk whose name I can't remember bakes... everyday. Cupcakes for everyone!
Also I'm at home now. I was supposed to stay at the college this summer, but things didn't work out. First of all it was a triple with one working internet connection. I was going to get top bunk. Eric wouldn't be able to stay in our room. And I couldn't get another room. So I did the math of paying for gas and paying for a room and food. Gas was actually cheaper so here I am. Home and happy about it.
So I guess that is about all. Oh! I totally haven't started on my IS.
